York Saw & Knife was founded in 1906 in York, PA by Louis Klunk. Originally called York Saw Works, the company was a premier, well-known manufacturer of steel saws with set teeth serving a wide variety of industries.

In 1969, James O. Pickard, Sr. purchased York Saw Works and changed the company name to York Saw and Machine Company, Inc. The years following marked a period of product line expansion and company growth. The company introduced carbide-tipped saw blades and wide band saw blades, diamond core blanks, and pile wires.

The company also continued to expand into industries requiring blades that would cut off, perforate, or slit paper, foil, film, plastics and corrugated products. These specialized applications required specialized knives in various shapes and sizes - different from the traditional saw blades the company historically manufactured.

As a result of the significant growth, the company changed its name to York Saw & Knife Company. Today, York Saw & Knife is owned and operated by James O. Pickard and Michael F. Pickard. The company employs more than 70 people, occupies a modern 65,000 square foot facility in Emigsville, PA and is an industry leader in the manufacturing of speclialized knives and cutting tools.
