Replacement Blades From Luxite Saw

Whether you use your circular saw for work each day or on the weekends for personal creative projects, there comes a time when you’ll need to replace the blade. Unfortunately, there’s no set interval or indicator light that comes on when your circular saw blade is dull. Since variables such the way you use your saw, how often you use it and the quality of the original blade play a role in how long it lasts, it’s up to you to make the determination.

If you haven’t noticed any issues with cutting with your circular saw, it’s very likely you’re still working with a sharp edge and a durable blade. Increased kerf tearout, excessive burning, chipping and binding and slow and difficult push-through, however, are common red flags that indicate you need to replace a circular saw blade. If you have concerns about your cutting performance, it’s time to take a closer look to see if the saw blade needs to be cleaned, sharpened or replaced.

REPLACING CIRCULAR SAW BLADES

Consider the following steps before you spend your hard-earned money sending blades out for professional sharpening or replacement circular saw blades:

  • Remove the blade from the machine and visually inspect the blade to see if there’s a buildup of pitch on the sides or the teeth. Often, poor cutting performance is a direct result of a dirty blade.
  • While you’re conducting a visual inspection, also be on the lookout for obvious signs of wear and damage. Look for worn-down, chipped, broken and missing teeth or chipped carbide tips that indicate it’s time to replace a circular saw blade.
  • Check the wear line of carbide edges using a bright light and magnifying glass to determine if it’s beginning to dull. When your carbide-tipped circular saw blades start rounding off, you need to send it out for sharpening or re-tipping.
  • Compare your saw blade against a blade you know is sharp and in excellent condition. If you’re serious about woodworking, it makes sense to buy two identical blades, using one as your primary blade and the other as a backup you only used periodically. This way you will be able to compare the two blades and notice when your primary one is getting dull.
